Top 5 Ways To Scrapbook Your Pets

by Barbara Eastwick

For so many people, their pets are their family, or certainly an integral part of it. And much like the genetic members of our family, every pet has his/her own personality and is a life to be chronicled. Our pets are a gift to us. They touch our lives and fill our hearts and making them a subject of our scrapbooks is a wonderful tribute to the role they play in our lives. It may seem difficult to organize the photos of our pets into succinct album themes, but here are the top five ways to do just that.

#1 Journal Your “Pet Stories”

Everyone who owns or has owned a pet knows what this means. We all have ‘stories’. There are the stories about the first day we took him home, the first bath, the first time he escaped and found his way back home again. There are stories of how she warned you of danger, or came and got you when the baby was crying. There are the infinite stories of the mysterious missing sandwich from the picnic table - and the oh-so-innocent look on your puppy’s face! Journaling will help you remember all those great stories.

#2 As They Grow Up

Organizing and designing your pet album in chronological order makes a lot of sense. It will help to tell the story of your pet from the time you got him up to the present. It’s easy to keep adding pages into the album, and it moves along in a sequence that is pleasing to the reader. Your family will always be glad to have this album, and creating it will help you remember to take more pictures and to take note of the special times that are happening in the present!

#3 The Member of the Family

As a member of your family, your pet interacts with the other members on a daily basis. Either interacting with other pets, or the people who occupy his house, your pet is busy socializing. This interaction often leads to many “scrap worthy” moments! Taking pictures and journaling the story of the time your kitten plotted an ambush, and successfully brought down someone 20 times her size and weight is a great story to tell. And the time your puppy charmed your husband into giving him “just one” piece of steak, even though he swore he never would. And the memory of your kitten, too small to reach into the dog bowl for water, instead choosing to climb in completely and then drink – all great stories to tell and remember. These are stories that all who know your pet will want to look back on. Scrapping these photos and memories is a wonderful way to preserve the good times.

#4 Pet Tricks

What makes your pet special? Can your cat jump up and clear a four foot high obstacle? Does your dog run so fast his ears go up and make him look like a flying bat? There are so many people who know their pet could be on a segment of the Tonight Show, but they may never get the chance. Go ahead and tell the story, get pictures, and get your pet their deserved 15 minutes of fame! Every pet is special – go ahead and let everyone know how your pet is different.

#5 Memory Albums

Anyone who has loved and lost a pet knows that it is hard to let go. A memory album is a special way to help with the healing process. By scrapping the photos and telling the stories about your pet, you help to keep their memory alive. It may be a little while after their passing before you feel able to do it, but you’ll never regret the time you spend crafting this album in their honor. Telling the stories of the life that was, and why and how they touched you will help all who loved it. Remembering our pets, their companionship, their loyalty, and their special quirks provides quiet comfort to our souls.
