have both iPhoto and MMS open (do a split screen)…just drag & drop your selected photo from iPhoto into the ‘box’ you want to the photo to go into in MMS. the ‘box’ will turn green (if i recall correctly) to signify that the photo will drop into there. it will auto-size your photo into the selected ‘box’
